Natural Assets of MalaysiaMalaysia, located in Southeastern Asia, with borders to Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and the South China Sea, is a favourite destination for global tourists due to the climate, natural beauty, warm and welcoming people and easy accessibility. In 2007, Malaysia celebrates 50 years of independence from British rule and is estimating one of the best tourist years to date.![]() Beaches One of the most beautiful things about Malaysia are its tropical islands, which offer not only the traditional sun sand and sea, but also breathtaking diving spots and coral reefs. The variety of the beaches in Malaysia is part of their charm, with powdery sandy beaches to black sand beaches and smooth pebble beaches. Kelongs, wooden structures built on stilts and used by local fishermen to fish are often converted into residential units for the fishermen and their families, sometimes joined together in groups to form a community. The sight of the Kelongs, over emerald waters with thick rainforests in the background paint a strikingly different picture than one expects when thinking of western beaches and provides a sense of calm and tranquillity only found in this part of the world. Climate The climate in Malaysia is tropical, generally hot and with a high degree of humidity. Tropical monsoons which arrive in season affect different parts of the country. For example the northeast Monsoon blows from November to January, bringing heavy rainfall to the East Coast of Malaysia while the southwest Monsoon blows from May to September bringing the rainy season to the western part of the country. Languages The Malay language is an Austronesian language and is the official language of Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore and although it is very similar to Indonesian there are several noticeable differences and even dialects within the Malaysia can have difficulty understanding each others pronunciation. English is the widely spoken official second language of Malaysia however several varieties exist, of which Malay English and Manglish are the most commonly referred to. As an example, English is still a compulsory subject for Malaysian O-Levels and the standard is often compared to English Language O-Level papers. What to do and what to see The possibilities of what to do and see in Malaysia are almost limitless. One option is exploring city centre life, for example by visiting the highest twin towers building in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. With 88 floors and located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, visiting the “sky bridge” which connects the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floor, and is the highest 2 story bridge in the world is an amazing experience not to be missed. Another option and possibly the most easily related to tourism in Malaysia is the island life experience, visiting some of the most beautiful tropical islands in the world, with crystal clear waters and alluring beaches. Watersports, relaxing in the sun or watching the wildlife are some of the many options. Adventure holidays are becoming increasingly popular amongst tourists to Malaysia including visits to Mount Kinabalu, one of Southeast Asia’s highest mountains, or the Mulu Caves with the largest cave chamber in the world, not forgetting the lush tropical rainforests which cover almost 80% of the country. The country is filled with possibilities and with an abundance of state-of-the-art, well equipped and well staffed private medical centres, who exercise competitive prices, Malaysia is being visited more and more for health reasons, either cosmetic or regenerative, visiting Malaysia for healthcare is becoming more and more popular. |
