Political Factors in TurkeyThe government in Turkey is a democratic republic which advocates the separation of state and religion, therefore although 90% of the population is Muslim, many other beliefs are actively present in the country, such as Christianity, Judaism, etc.![]() The President of the Republic is the head of state and represents the republic and the unity of the Turkish nation, as well as upholding the Turkish constitution and overseeing the workings of the organs of state. Executive power is held by the government, the head of which is the Prime Minister. Legislative power is shared between the government and the Grand National Assembley of Turkey whereas the Judiciary is independent and protected by the constitution. The government of Turkey is pro-western and are actively working towards the integration of Turkey into the European Union. They have implemented actions towards a major economic reform which, as can be seen by the growing economy are working to improve the conditions in the country. The government has been in office since the end of 2002. |
