Hotels in ItalyTourists will find around 40,000 hotels in Italy. The Provincial Tourist Board is the one in charge to fix every hotel rate and you will find that many of the hotels quote all-inclusive rates, meaning that it includes taxes (if an all-inclusive hotel does not include VAT it has to be added), service, heating or air-conditioning. The current VAT tax for all hotel categories is set in Italy at 10 %. Hotel rates are usually lower during the off-season months: November to March in main cities and towns and resort centres; April/May and September/November at ski resorts. Hotels are classified in categories: 5-Star Deluxe, 5-Star, 4-Star, 3-Star, 2-Star and 1-Star.![]() When paying the deposit (Caparra) If you do not pay a deposit, according to Italian Civil Law and also the regulations of IHA (International Hotel Association) and FIAVET (International Federation of Travel Agents), any hotel booking is not considered valid until you pay that deposit. IHA and FIAVET regulations further state that a deposit will be refunded if the reservation is cancelled at least 14 days in advance and 30 days in advance during the high season Accommodation in private homes This type of accommodation in private homes is available in many of the cities or towns of the country. If you are interested in being accommodated in a private home, we advise you to contact the official tourist office of the city or town that interests you and request "un elenco di affittacamere" (list of persons renting rooms). Private homes offering accommodations are not official establishments and, as such, are not rated by the tourist office. Accommodation in Religious Institutions As it happens with the accommodation in private homes, you have to contact the Arcivescovado of the Italian city concerned (in the case of Rome, for example, the address is: "Arcivescovado di Roma, Roma, Italia) in order to get a full list of convents, monasteries and other religious institutions offering accommodations, or you can also write to the provincial tourist office or local tourist board. A partial list is also available through the Italian Government Tourist Boards in U.S. and Canada. |
